UPDATE: ALL Gatherings for worship and fellowship are suspended in order to prevent the spread of the highly contagious Covid-19 pandemic. The office is closed, but we will continue with soup kitchen in a limited and careful manner. See letter from session for more information. Worship with us virtually on facebook live.
First Presbyterian Church welcomes all people. We are a congregation open to the word of God and God's vision for us as we seek to love God and our neighbor.
We are a congregation that is part of a larger denomination, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). As members of a larger body of Christians, we are able to serve together in ways that would be difficult to do by ourselves. For example, one of our annual denominational offerings supports the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance mission, which responds to natural disasters and traumatic events around the country and world.
We strive to reach out to our neighbors in need. We have had a Soup Kitchen Ministry for over forty years that serves a hot meal and provides other forms of assistance to the homeless in our community.
We hope to be good neighbors. First Presbyterian Church is a member of the Downtown Churches Association (DCA), which includes most of the churches that serve downtown Memphis. Together, we founded the Hospitality HUB to better serve the homeless downtown. In addition, our congregations joyfully gather at City Hall on Palm Sundays to pray for our city before returning to our own worship services.
In John's Gospel, the disciples believe in Christ and begin a wonderful journey of faith. We feel that is happening at First Presbyterian Church, and we would like to share it with all who seek to catch the vision and begin this joyous journey.
Join us on Sunday mornings!
There is a great time of fellowship around the coffee pot and the donut platter at 10:30 am. Worship begins at 11:00 am.
